XC Ski
I learned to XC ski last year and I LOVE IT! I took Cole out with some friends over the weekend and he LOVED it too!
It is sort of frighting learning something new, especially when you are an adult! But what I have learned from skiing is that I can do new things, really tough new things. It is a blast out there! I have met so many new friends and had so many amazing adventures!
If you have never tried XC skiing...maybe give it a try this winter! Hey...you might actually like it!

Adam Lambert is getting all the attention...
Here is his video for the song he sang at the AMA's...it is much tamer! The song might need to grow on me...it seems a bit boring.

Tweet What You Eat
I just found this FREE way to keep track of what you eat! It is super easy and you can even upload what you eat from your phone! You need a Twitter account....but that is super easy! I am going to try and keep up with it for the next week and see how easy it really is...

Lady Ga Ga is AMAZING!
Lady GaGa performed at HRC's big dinner on Saturday night before the National Equality March in D.C. on Sunday.
She took to the stage to give a speech about the importance of treating everyone the same - legally - and she also performed her own version of John Lennon's legendary Imagine.

The Fox Cities Marathon
Doug was pumping the tunes for the half marathon and the marathon on Sunday. He was a mile from the finish! The kids and I stood at the corner and cheered and cheered till we lost our voices! How AMAZING to see people working so hard, pushing themselves further than they thought they could ever push! The human spirit is so much stronger than we give it credit!
I saw Kristen and Kathy from the Biggest Loser and they looked so great! Kathy had her eye on that finish line and Kristen was grinning from ear to ear! There was a mom from Emma's school doing her first half marathon and she said she has never been more tired or proud of herself....how great is that!? There was a few people in the marathon that I know did Ironman in Madison the weekend before. There were a few people racing to keep their streak alive with 19 Fox Cities in a row! From the youngest little girls and boys to the oldest men and women I was so impressed!
I really love that my kids enjoy watching and running in races because I think it shows them that the world is filled with possibilities beyond what you can imagine. Running a marathon teaches dedication, commitment, and independence. I believe in celebrating every day how lucky we are to be healthy (healthier than we give our selves credit!)
Great job everyone who did the races this past weekend. You did a great job! You taught me life is fuller than I think! Can't wait to watch next year!

So I signed up to do Ironman Wi next year!
Peoples first reaction to hearing that I signed up to do Ironman next year is, "Are you freaking crazy?" I really don't think I am crazy at all but maybe I need to catch people up to speed. Seven years ago I weight 249 pounds. Seriously, I weight that much and it really sucked! I totally let me self go and I could give you a million excuse why and how I did it...but I wont! I started losing weight by exercising and eating great food....plain and simple! There was no magic pill, and no secret just hard work and a lot of re-focusing for a long time! Two years ago I started amping up my workouts and really thought about what is next. I had no idea what was next but I thought I would open myself up to do some new things. I tried a spin class and I really liked it. I met some friends who encouraged me to try biking out doors, to swim more, and to run with them. I was (and still am) way out of my league with these people but I really enjoy my time working out and making new friends.
Last year I felt like if I continued working out as hard as I was I could maybe try and do a couple of Half Ironman's here in WI. So I busted my butt for a year learning everything I could and working out as hard as I could. I did the High Cliff Half Ironman and I thought I really got myself in over my head! I had a tough day and thought that is enough of that...but I had already signed up and PAID for the Door County Half Ironman...so DARN I had to do that too! I did it and you know what, it was incredible! I learned from my mistakes, I re-focused and I had a total blast!
So this year I figured, why not kick it up a notch!? Why not do something tough, why not push myself? That is what I have been doing for two years! I have put myself in so many new situations that seriously scared me, and situations I wanted to back down from...but I made it out of everyone of those moments a better stronger and more confident person.
I don't have some crazy goal for Ironman except to enjoy myself and to prove to myself that I am worth a little time each day doing something exciting.

This PETA add is OVER the TOP!
'Cruelty Doesn't Fly'—Learn More at PETA.org.CNN has banned this add from running in airports! PETA is working on getting this add to run on airplanes...not working so good so far! They say they don't want kids to see it! Oh boy it is pretty steamy!
Audrina Patridge
She gets her own show (produced my Mark Burnett), she is in a movie (Sorority Row) a now a "spread" in Maxim Mag. My favorite part of the article in Maxim is when she says how hard it was being on a reality show ( The Hills) as the only brunette! OMG I can't stop laughing! I get it...I have had to live with this brown hair all my life...not fair!

I almost have a 13 year old...
I never do these types of blogs but Cole is turning 13 in a few days and it just feels plain weird. Everyone always says it goes by so fast...but this has felt tooooo fast! He is the nicest kid! I love being around him...and I think that is a good thing since 13 can be a tricky age. He just loves everything and he is always game to do anything! There is not enough time in the day for this kid to do everything that he loves. He can hang with adults, he can handle his sister and her crazy little friends and of course he would play any sport any time of the day! He is really fun. My biggest job with him is keeping him reeled in...and I will gladly be the one to do that!
Ok, enough of that...I know...a little of the bragging mom goes a long way!
Lucky 13 starts in a few days!

The photo everyone is talking about...
Lizzy Miller, a plus sized model (seriously!) in Glamour Magazine! People are freaking! Some love the photo and say she looks "real" and others are saying she is fat and should put some clothes on! All I know is we need a new name for Plus Sized Model...I hate that term! I think she looks great...what do you think?

How is this a WOMAN?
South African woman (?) Caster Semenya won BIG TIME at the world Championships. BUT the people are questioning if she is really a woman. She has to under go "gender testing" before they will give her/him the gold medal! BTW it takes three weeks to get the results of a "gender test!" Doug says he could do the test in a min...drop 'em and show the goods...then we know!

4:50pm I got a great message from a woman on Facebook and here it is:
Mary, after almost bawling on my way home i decided to drop you a quick note about how childrens hospital has touched the lives of the members of my family. My niece was diagnosed with a very rare form of pediatric cancer. By the time of diagnosis (at childrens) her cancer had spread to her brain stem and to her liver.. the prognosis was not good.. at all... after many rounds of chemo therapy, radiation therapy, the removal of her eye, and a complete liver transplant I am happy to say she is a BEAUTIFUL, HEALTHY blonde hair blue eyed 11 year old who aspires to be an olympic gymnast some day... without the doctors at Childrens hospital, both Neenah and Milwaukee... who would know what would have happened to her! God Bless them!
4:40pm Just found out WAPL is giving away a Chainsaw from a show they had here in town recently..Jackyl...the auction is up to $500...go for it!
4:00pm Talked to Tammy about her little boy Nicolas (who is only one year old) and his brain is too big for his head! So the doctors did brain surgery on him...WOW! I love what she said...I hug my kids twice every night and I kiss them three times!
3:45pm Everyone that donated before 4pm also gave a Build A Bear to a kid at Children's Hosptial! So fun!
3:30pm Kids in the 70's just died of leukemia, today 80 to 90% of kids with leukemia live healthy happy lives thanks to Children's Hospital!
3:00pm Back in the studio from 3 to 6pm. Just got the best call from a woman whose 24 year old boyfriend had a brain tumor removed when he was 12 from Children's! He is so healthy and has such a great life! WOW!
9:00am Handing off to Dayton for a few hours to inspire you to give money! Doug and I will be back 3 to 6pm this afternoon!
8:35am A woman calls and says she asked for Donations to Children's for her son's first b-day instead of presents! LOVE IT! She bought gas cards for families to get back and forth to see their kids! How neat is that?

8:05 am A message from Facebook makes my day, here it is: "Mary I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you guys are doing for the radiothon. Children's Hospital has been our home away from home for 2.5 years. This will be our 3rd year doing the radiothon. I will be answering phones on Friday and my daughter Kylee's story has been played the last 2 years on the radio. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK for everything."
7:42am What was the last deal you made with God? God just get me through this...was it to keep your baby girl alive? Or was it something super trivial? Wow. Radio-thon puts it all in perspective for me every year!
7:30am Posting stories of Children's Hospital kids on Facebook! Become a friend on Facebook and share our Radio-thon link so all your friends can donate money to Children's too! (BTW My facebook is under Mary Love)

6:44am I just cried so hard hearing the mom tell the story of her Little League Ball Player with a tumor! Little guy had bad headaches...ends up with a tumor. I just can't imagine being in the waiting room while one of my kids has a tumor removed. I just don't think I could manage that!

Vacation was GREAT!
We had the best vacation! We spent a week on Lake Gogebic in Michigan. We stayed at a beautiful cottage right on the lake! It was so nice to just get away from it all! We spent some time up in the Porcupine Mountains, checking out Lake of the Clouds. We hiked into Mirror Lake (8 miles) and checked out one of the cool cabins that they have that you can rent! Talk about in the middle of nowhere! It was serious bear country out there!
Cole and Doug went on an amazing mining adventure. They were lowered down into this huge copper mine with harnesses and hardhats with lights...OMG they LOVED THAT!
I saw a wolf, Doug and Cole saw a coyote, and Emma was mad because all she saw was a dead porcupine. We did not see a bear...but maybe next time!
My mom taught Emma to knit...and she LOVED THAT!
We went to the cardboard boat races and the kids (and G-pa Richard) want to design boats for next year!
We spend a ton of time on our boat checking out the lake! What a great place!
The kids and Doug caught a few fish.
I biked around the lake a few times, swam some serious lake shore...trying to rehab that insane ankle of mine!
We had campfires, blew up fireworks, threw the ball for the dogs, and ate some amazing food!
Feels so good to get away every once in awhile! THEN it feels so good to get back home :)

Boobs...
My grandmother had breast cancer. She was in her 80's when she was diagnosed and she received some pretty awful treatments to try and eradicate it! So I decided that I would take it upon myself to be proactive about my boobs (for a lack of a better way to put it!) Affinity (St. Elizabeth's) has a walk in clinic on Wednesdays. You can literally walk in and get a mammogram. It is simple, it is fast and it did not hurt at all! They even called me the next morning to tell me the results...NORMAL! That is good news for SURE!
The best part of this is since I am so young they will have a base line for my future breast health! Since I do have a history of breast cancer in my family, it is going to be something I take very seriously! It was so simple, I will make sure I get a mammogram at St. Elizabeth's every year. Make sure you tell your friends, sisters and moms to get a mammogram every year!!

My First Half Ironman
I have always thought a half Ironman would be tough...but tough does NOT being to describe it!
SWIM 1.2 miles:
The swim was rough because the waves were really big!!! It was tough to see the buoys and the people around you. I felt a little panicked at one point but told myself I had to get the hell over that and I did (I can be pretty convincing!) Thank goodness because I was thinking the swim would be my favorite part of the day...
BIKE 56 miles:
The bike was GREAT! I actually had a blast riding that course. I felt good, I was NOT too hot and I was passing people! I was super shocked because the bike has not been the easiest thing for me to do so far! It was my greatest worry going into the race...but there was nothing to worry about yesterday!
RUN 13.1
When I got off the bike I felt like I was hit by a wall! Heading out of transition you have to run right up High Cliff Hill (if you have never seen it...it is massive!) It was so much harder than I had ever imagined. My legs did not turn around like I thought they would but I just kept going. The run was a double loop so people were flying past me that were on their final loop! They were soaked from sweat and the heat! It was so hot! I have to say the run was the toughest thing I have ever done it my life! It was beyond words. I have had to dig deep before but this was the deepest I have gone in my life!
Would you do it again...they ask?
I have already signed up for Door County Half Ironman and yes I am going to do it! My goal is to do the race with out feel like I am surviving and feel more like I am soaring!
Congrats to everyone who did the Sprint and the Half...it was a hot day and everyone did so good!

Florida 2009
I love traveling... I was just in Florida back in May. See link for some video fun I made. It was a week long vacation so one would think that you would be refreshed and ready to go back to work and can work through the year leaving the possibility of another vacation a year away... I made it three weeks... Three weeks until I want/need another vacation. Call it the stress of the job or just the love of being in a warm(er) climate. Something about being able to sit outside at 8:00 in the morning and it being already 80 degrees just makes me really happy.
It also could be my love for Vegas that I want to go asap. Vegas was triggered because of the movie The Hangover. An exceptional movie that battles Old School and Wedding Crashers in the genre of comedy movies.
Speaking of movies, The Hangover has definitely been the best movie of the summer. Growing up with seven kids, the form of entertainment to keep all of us busy was movies and it carries over today. I'm a big summer movie guru. Wolverine (disappointing), Star Trek (not a treky fan), Angels and Demons (interesting but didn't merit a May release), and Terminator (seriously, an Arnold cameo!) were a mere disappointment and a few steps behind The Hangover. Could also be my love for Comedies. Hopefully Transformers 2 is just as entertaining as the first one.
Well I think that's all I got for the randomness in my head before 8:00. Take care! :)

A few of the women who work at Harley are taking the class with me! We will learn to ride motorcycles and of course have to take a written test and a road test!! At the end of the weekend we will (if we pass) all have our licenses and our temps! How fun is that!?!?!?!?!!

My first 100 Miler on the Bike...
I had a blast riding my first 100 miler on the bike yesterday! I went with a bunch of great friends to Madison to ride on the Ironman course and the Olympic Course. The Olympics are coming to Chicago and the bike course is in WI!!! It is near Bluemounds which is a HUGE LONG hill! We made it to the top and coming back down some of those hills was the craziest thing I have EVER DONE! I think my top speed was 44 mph!! The wild flowers were everywhere....you tend to miss those in the car! I am so lucky to have met some of the most amazing people who are showing me the ropes! I really could NOT have done this ride with out them!! I would have been on the side of the road in the fetal position a few times! My coach, Jim Boldra, who is training me for the Half Ironman at High Cliff (and begging me in his ever so subtle way to do the full Ironman) is amazing and made sure I was ready for this crazy ride! If you ever have the chance to try something that is new, kind of scary, and really outside your life give it a try...you might really surprise yourself! I have surprised myself beyond my wildest imagination...and you know what...it feels really good!

I am thinking V-Rod
The Garage Party at Harley was AMAZING! What a blast! If you have EVER been interested in getting a bike you should do this! We learned how to pick up a bike...and it was SO easy! We got to ride a bike on the dyno...so you wont CRASH! It was really great to feel the bike and to learn how to use the clutch in such a safe environment! The best part of the night was meeting all the people who work at Harley! The are all so nice and so much fun! You can tell they all LOVE working there and are really just sharing their passion of bikes with the rest of the world!

Updated title for the worst patient in the world...
So Doug gets a new title! He has been such a good patient! He had his surgery yesterday morning at 8am and we were in the car driving home at 10am! That is insane! He was pretty wooggie on the way home and I was NOT sure how he was going to get in the house....but he made it! He was out of it for most of the day but then he just seemed to snap out of it! He was up and moving around...looking for food! He even helped Cole with homework last night! He sat outside and even sat on a stool in the kitchen!
He said to me last night...I think I could go back to do the show tomorrow! YIKES. I think we need to move a little slower big guy! I do think it is a distinct possibility that he could be back for Monday's show!
He has been such a great...(I hate to say it) LOW MAINTENANCE patient!

PROM....
So, this adorable girl, Kelsie, is our next door neighbor. Her mother, and one of our dearest friends, passed away this past summer! We wanted to make her prom so fun and so fancy that she didn't have time to think about her mom not being there. Her older sister did her hair and make-up and we all took a million photos! She really looked amazing! She was so happy! Her boyfriend, Josh, was stunned when she walked out! My jeans and sweatshirt wearing girl next door was looking so GREAT!
Her mother was smiling up in heaven! I just know it!

Doug is a REAL D.J.
Doug has a new hobby! He has been djing! He use to do this when I first met him (a million years ago) but he started up again! He LOVES it! Look how happy (and HOT) he is in the photo! He has been doing weddings, proms, dances, backyard graduation parties...all of it! It is so fun to see him enjoying himself. He has been teaching our son Cole how to set up all the "stuff" and Cole is LOVING that!
